A local biomass debris reclamation site takes limbs and grinds them up on site and turns them into wood fuel for wood-fired boilers for power production.
"It's basically carbon neutral," Ed Buford with the Angelina Fuels LLC said. "With fossil fuels you are adding carbon to the atmosphere when you burn it. With biomass, the carbon is already there, so you are not adding any new carbon to the atmosphere. It's better than coal-fired plants by far."(Link)

Instead, of the usual gift of roses or lilys or chocolates. Why not give her something that lasts forever?
Why not offset the emissions from her car? So that everytime she drives it, she knows she's helping to save our world. And you were the person who set that up for her. And of course, if you're a her, you might just do it for him, too. Labels: carbon neutral |

As I've been saying would happen, the world greenhouse gas credits market--driven by carbon--rose 80% last year.
The rise in carbon market profit, of course, can be attributed to mandatory emission cuts in Kyoto countries as well as to companies in the US seeking to green their image in world where the emission of pollutants is increasingly taboo

"Just to explain 1-1=0 or serial sequestration again.
Rather than take a fossil fuel and pollute and then require an offset say in the planting of an equivalent number of trees ( not that re-forrestating the earth wouldn't be anything, but a good thing. )
Instead, to use a biofuel, for example biodiesel, and using it ( + 1 amount of CO2 ), then mitigating that pollution by creating the biodiesel again whether from grain or algae ( -1 amount of CO2 ), thus creating a zero balance. You can then do this forever."

If the UN were to mandate a equitable business model where developing countrys could plant trees at an equivalent western dollar amount.
The extra funds being used to expand the use of renewable energy resources in these developing nations; with any left-over funds enhancing education, hospitals and other infrastructure. Perhaps then we could take all this "TALK" seriously.
Naturally, some price incentive could be allowed coupled with assurances, as to where the trees would be planted. This is a lucrative alternative for developing these countrys in a sustainable way. Who wouldn't want to give in this way? There's no downside to this "ACTION".

Just as Albert Einstein did with e=mc2. You can reduce saving the planet to one simple easy to remember equation: 1-1=0
For example, with electricity production, here in Australia most country electricity is produced by diesel generator. Closing a system of co2 flow with a algal biofilter to produce biodiesel, you take out all the carbon so the process begining again. The thinking on my part that sets this apart is that, depending on the strain of algae, 50% of the algae is in the form of oil (biodiesel) and about 50% green waste;to my thinking the green waste can be burned and the exhaust gases from this turned once again into biodiesel, closing the loop.
This new power station would then produce no emissions, while supplying it's own fuel at low cost.
Some of the benefits of this process are * No co2 emissions to the atmosphere. * No nox emissions to the atmosphere. * No transport costs for fuel oil. * It's a continuous money making frachise for who ever wants to own one.

And they're binding up something in the order of 25% of the carbon that's produced. So they're a huge carbon sink. We get rid of those and we're in big trouble." Adding nutrients to areas of the ocean that lack phytoplankton is one way of reversing the effects of global warming explored by a new BBC TV documentary, Five Ways To Save The World.
Our oceans are teeming with phytoplankton: millions of microscopic plants beneath the waves that are vital to the marine ecosystem because they form the base of the marine food chain.
Phytoplankton are not visible to the naked eye but from space, satellite images show that phytoplankton form enormous green swirls hundreds of kilometres long around coastal waters. They employ photosynthesis, using sunlight and carbon dioxide (CO2) from sea water, to sustain themselves.
"Just like trees, they can take carbon dioxide and give us back oxygen," says Professor Ian Jones, an ocean engineer from the University of Sydney, Australia. When the plankton die, they sink deep to the ocean floor, taking the carbon with them.

Proposals have been made to fertilise large areas of the ocean with iron to increase phytoplankton growth and so increase the ocean’s capacity to draw carbon dioxide (CO2) out of the atmosphere. Several commercial organisations are actively promoting ocean iron fertilisation as a climate mitigation strategy and a means to gain carbon accreditation.
Controlled iron fertilisation experiments have shown an increase in phytoplankton growth and temporary increase in drawdown of atmospheric CO2.
